An Evening of Absolute Purity: Live Acoustic vs. Reference Analogue
How close can HiFi really get to a live performance?
For decades, the holy grail of high-fidelity audio has been recreating the exact emotional weight and presence of the original artist in your room. At Kronos AV, we are putting that pursuit to the ultimate test.
Join us at our award-winning West Sussex showroom for an unprecedented, closed-door masterclass in audio purity. Designed for an intimate audience of just 20 listeners, this unique evening bridges the gap between raw, acoustic artistry and pinnacle audio engineering.
The Performance
The evening will center around an exclusive, live acoustic set by acclaimed recording artist Reema, accompanied by Alon Lotringer. Celebrated for their deeply moving songwriting, you will experience the delicate, human reality of their music from just a few feet away.
The Process
To give you unprecedented insight into how this performance is captured, we are honored to be joined by Jason, distributor of Berlin’s renowned LowSwing Records.
Famous worldwide for an uncompromising dedication to the analogue process—recording directly to tape, mixing to master tape, and cutting directly to vinyl with absolutely zero computers involved—Sternberg will discuss the intricate engineering behind Reema and Alon’s special pressings. This is a rare look into what it takes to capture true analogue magic.
The Playback
Immediately following the live performance, we will transition to the vinyl. We will play the purest analogue pressings of those exact same tracks on an uncompromising £150,000+ reference system, driven by the remarkable £80,000 Onkk Q-SDD turntable.
Engineered in the UK, the Onkk Q-SDD utilizes a custom slotless direct-drive motor and telescope-grade optical encoders to completely eliminate rotational noise and cogging, providing a blacker background and greater pitch stability than almost any other turntable in existence.
A UK First: The Grimm Audio Premiere
To ensure the playback matches the purity of the live room, this event will proudly host the official UK Premiere of the newly announced Grimm Audio PA1 monoblocks. You will be among the very first audiophiles in the country to experience the absolute control and transparency of this groundbreaking amplification.
The Challenge: Hear the live, unamplified voice. Hear from the engineer who cut the master tape. Then, hear the vinyl. We invite you to sit in the sweet spot and decide for yourself just how close world-class HiFi can get to the real thing.
Equipment Featured at This Event
Onkk Q-SDD Turntable
Engineered in Norfolk, UK, the £80,000 Onkk Q-SDD redefines direct-drive turntable performance. Utilising a custom slotless motor and telescope-grade optical encoders, it completely eliminates motor "cogging" and speed fluctuations. Combined with predictive DSP motion control and sub-micron machining, the Q-SDD delivers absolute pitch stability and an ultra-silent background for pure analogue playback.
Silent Pound Challenger II
Engineered in Europe, the Silent Pound Challenger II is an extraordinary 3.5-way constant-directivity loudspeaker. Boasting dual 12-inch open-baffle woofers and an MTM driver array within a cardioid-dispersion enclosure, it is designed to drastically reduce room resonances by directing sound forwards. Weighing 60kg and featuring a steel cabinet, this premium speaker delivers an astonishing 30Hz to 18kHz frequency response with 88dB sensitivity.
Charisma Audio Signature YYZ
Representing a "money-no-object" approach to analog playback, the Charisma Audio Signature YYZ is a premium moving coil phono cartridge. Housed in a distinctive yellow rosewood body, it features a pure iron square coil, a solid diamond cantilever, and a micro fine line contact diamond stylus. This uncompromising design ensures class-leading heat dissipation, exquisite sound quality, and a remarkably flat frequency response from 20 to 30,000 Hz. Highly regarded by audiophile reviewers, the YYZ tracks flawlessly at an optimum 1.45 grams, offering a perfectly balanced signal for reference-level vinyl systems.
Grimm Audio PA1 Mono Block Power Amplifiers
Designed to match the reference quality of their MU2 streamer, the Grimm Audio PA1 is a compact, Class AB mono-block power amplifier. It is capable of delivering more than 150 watts into 8 ohms and over 200 watts into 4 ohms. Engineered with a fully balanced, symmetrical circuit containing 96 fast output transistors on an aluminum circuit board, it provides a constant impedance that dramatically minimizes dynamic signal distortions. Featuring a linear power supply with an Amplimo toroidal transformer and 90,000 µF of reservoir capacitance, the PA1 delivers absolute pitch stability, true-to-life mids, and pristine audio playback.
Grimm Audio MU2 Streamer/DAC/PREAMP
The Grimm Audio MU2 is a reference-class streamer, DAC, and analog preamplifier designed to act as the ultimate digital hub for uncompromising audio systems. Its crowning achievement is Grimm’s proprietary "Major DAC" technology, a custom FPGA-based discrete design that delivers unprecedented resolution and a profoundly natural, analogue-like presentation. Featuring a built-in Roon Core, an ultra-low jitter master clock, and a pure relay-based analog volume control, the MU2 flawlessly bridges the gap between modern digital convenience and absolute audiophile purity.
Grimm Audio PW1 MM/MC Phono Stage
Designed by renowned engineer Peter van Willenswaard (the "Phono Wizard"), the Grimm Audio PW1 is a compact, reference-level solid-state MM/MC phono stage. It utilizes a minimal-component circuit design featuring hand-selected FET transistors rather than op-amps to preserve delicate signal integrity. Incredibly, the PW1 incorporates a custom, superiorly shielded linear power supply within its small 10cm x 10cm x 25cm chassis, eliminating the need for a bulky external unit. With extensive load and gain adjustments accessible via a discreet bottom panel, this £4,695 phono stage seamlessly blends tube-like warmth with solid-state clarity.
