Ensure Perfect Playback: The Kronos AV RPM Meter
Vinyl playback is all about precision. Even minor fluctuations in platter speed can alter the pitch and timing of your favorite records. Available directly within the Toolkit menu of the Kronos AV app, our built-in RPM Meter turns your smartphone into a high-precision calibration tool to test your turntable’s speed stability in real-time.
Whether you're listening at 33 ⅓ or 45 RPM, the RPM Meter provides instant, clear feedback so you can trust your deck is performing flawlessly.
How It Works
Testing your turntable's speed only takes a few seconds:
- Launch the Meter: Open the Kronos AV app, navigate to the Toolkit menu, and select RPM Meter. (Note: You can access a full digital manual by tapping "Instructions" at the top of the screen).
- Start Measuring: Tap Start Measuring. (iPhone users: Make sure to allow the orientation feature when prompted).
- Place on the Platter: Carefully set your phone flat on the turntable platter while it spins.
- Read the Results: The app will instantly display your real-time RPM, alongside the exact variance (e.g., +0.1 or -0.2). Once finished, scroll to the bottom to see your average speed stability.
Clear, Colour-Coded Feedback
You don't need to be an engineer to understand the results. The RPM Meter uses a simple color-coding system to let you know how your turntable is performing:
- Green (Within Tolerance): Your turntable's speed is highly accurate and operating completely within safe parameters.
- Red (Speed Instability): Your deck is running too fast or too slow. This means you have an issue with speed stability that is likely affecting your audio quality.
Seeing Red? We can help.
If your measurements are consistently showing in the red, it may be time to calibrate your turntable's motor or replace the drive belt. Contact the Kronos AV team, and our audio experts will be happy to help you get your deck running perfectly again.
