Synergistic Research PowerCell 8 SX
PowerCell 8 SX is an eight-outlet, non-current-limiting power conditioner developed for serious stereo and AV systems. Its technology draws on Synergistic Research's Galileo and SRX developments, bringing active electromagnetic filtering, ULF frequency biasing and a vibration-controlled chassis into a comparatively compact format.
Manufacturer technology and design
The manufacturer’s approach combines electromagnetic cells that work on the mains feed with an active ultra-low-frequency generator that biases the cells. Synergistic Research positions the design as a way to lower the system noise floor while maintaining dynamic current delivery to demanding components. Two selectable ULF settings allow the owner to audition different presentations: Blue is voiced for acoustic and vocal material, while Red targets a broader, more energetic presentation.
Key features
- Eight treated AC outlets in the appropriate regional configuration
- Two folded electromagnetic cells plus an additional horizontal-plane cell
- Dual-setting ULF generator and active power supply for cell biasing
- 12 AWG Silver Matrix internal wiring with a Galileo-derived circuit design
- Machined aircraft-grade aluminium and carbon-fibre chassis
- Connection capability for a compatible Synergistic Research Active Ground Block
- High-current Neutrik power input architecture; the exact UK input lead and outlet standard must be verified
Who is it for?
A useful choice where several hi-fi components share a rack, including a streamer, DAC, phono stage, preamplifier and compatible amplifiers. Ask Kronos AV to check the UK outlet version, number and type of connected devices, total current demand and the power cable supplied with the selected package.
Frequently asked questions
Is it only for source equipment? Synergistic Research promotes PowerCell conditioning for amplifiers as well as low-power components, provided electrical ratings are respected. What does the colour setting change? It changes the manufacturer's internal ULF bias programme; it is not a tone-control EQ.
Kronos AV specialist advice
Every hi-fi system is different. Kronos AV can help check component matching, installation requirements and the exact product configuration before purchase. This product description explains the manufacturer's design and intended applications; sound-quality outcomes depend on the wider system and listening environment.
