Cables.... A Worthy Upgrade?

Cables.... A Worthy Upgrade?

Well, that is a question we get asked on a regular basis and are the answer is pretty simple... YES!!! It is true that some products, at certain points where, "snake oil" and there are a lot of theories out there which have been proven to be untrue and really don't make much difference to your system, so it is sensible to be cautious before jumping in at the first sight of new technology or some form of new "upgrade". Cables are always an area of debate, and it is easy to see why. We have been in the HiFi industry for over 20 years, and we admit, we are very big fans of cables, and we wouldn't consider building a system for a customer without at least highly recommending that they add some upgraded cables. With that being said, we do understand why some customers are skeptical, as we have heard many cables which haven't made any positive improvement, so it is sensible to be cautious about what you are buying. As mentioned before, we are big fans of cables and that's why we are very particular about what we will stock. We listen to every brand that we stock, so we know exactly what the cables will do for the system, and most importantly we are sure that they will bring a positive difference to your system. So why do cables work? Well let's look at it from an “everyday” point of view: Say you buy a new car, and it has a great engine ( amplifier, speakers etc…) if the fuel that is going to it is being carried by cheap, incompatible lines (cables) then the engine is going to be working with contaminated, maybe even less fuel than it needs to work at its full potential. Essentially it is being restricted and is doing the best it can with what it is being supplied. With that being said, it may still feel pretty good… but when you have something with potential, do you want to settle for “pretty good” Say you take those lines out and replace them with something compatible to your engine, all of a sudden your engine is getting the clean and usable fuel, so it begins to perform better and really shows you the true potential it had. Well it's the same with cables, if your electronics aren't getting the signal efficiently and cleanly they are never going to be able to perform anywhere near their capabilities. When you think about it this way, it almost sounds crazy not to use cables in your system, because you are restricting your electronics from producing anything near what they are capable of. Of course, what a lot of our people will say to us is, but that's a lot of money for something so small. Naturally, cables are not as impressive to look at and certainly don't give your system as big of a “wow” factor as a set of new speakers, or new electronics would, however, if you are truly looking for the best sound possible, then cables are a must have. If you want to push your system to new levels, as mentioned before, it's worth being cautious, and please don't be put off because you have heard a set that you didn't like. It is the same as with electronics or speakers, there will be some out there that you will not like the sound off, and with cables, it's exactly the same. Cables, like anything else in a system, are tuned for a particular sound, so it's simply a case of matching the right cable to your sound.
