Package

The Yamaha TRUE X SURROUND 90A brings flagship home cinema engineering into a slim-bodied package. It stands just 71 mm tall. A rigid cabinet sits on substantial resin legs, giving the centre unit genuine stability. Moreover, the system pairs the soundbar with an external subwoofer and two wireless rear speakers, the TRUE X SPEAKER 3A. Each rear speaker comes with its own charging cradle. Consequently, the whole array offers real flexibility, since the rear units run on built-in battery power rather than trailing cables.

Beams

Twelve DSP-controlled beam speakers sit atop the bar, six to each side. They project sound upward via Yamaha's original YDA-141 amplifier. As a result, ceiling reflections create genuine height channels for a true Dolby Atmos experience, rather than a simulated one. Custom eye-shaped oval speakers handle the front and centre channels. They deliver rich midrange tone and strong volume from fewer drivers. Therefore, the sound field stays clear and free of acoustic interference, even at higher listening levels.

Bass

The external subwoofer introduces Yamaha's newly developed Symmetrical Flare Port technology. Detailed Particle Image Velocimetry measurements shaped its design. Because the horizontal and vertical port structure releases air flow so smoothly, port noise falls by around 20 dB against earlier designs. Consequently, bass reproduction stays powerful and deep, without the boom or distortion common to compact subwoofers.

Processing

SURROUND:AI technology draws on the same Qualcomm QCS407 64-bit processor found in Yamaha's flagship AVENTAGE AV receivers. It analyses each scene up to five times a second. The system identifies dialogue, ambience, effects, and music, then adjusts the sound field automatically. In addition, it supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and AURO-3D. This makes the TRUE X SURROUND 90A the world's first AURO-3D compatible soundbar. Clear Voice and Bass Extension modes further sharpen dialogue clarity and low-end depth.

Streaming

Yamaha's own MusicCast network system links the soundbar with other MusicCast devices around the home. A single app controls the whole network. AirPlay 2, Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music all come built in, so high-resolution sources play with full fidelity. Meanwhile, eARC and CEC support lets the system connect to a television through one HDMI cable. The TV remote then handles power and volume directly.

Flexibility

Each TRUE X SPEAKER 3A doubles as a portable Bluetooth speaker at the touch of a Solo button. So the rear channels can travel beyond the room when needed. Additionally, removing the legs lets the centre unit wall-mount. This keeps a footprint of just 76 mm in height and 143 mm in depth. Overall, this combination of wireless freedom and considered engineering gives the TRUE X SURROUND 90A a genuinely flexible flagship soundbar system.
