The Audio-Technica AT-VM740xML is a premium dual moving magnet (MM) phono cartridge from the updated AT-VMx series. Combining a rigid die-cast aluminium body, precision generator and Nude MicroLinear stylus, it is designed for detailed, balanced record playback and confident stereo imaging.

The advanced MicroLinear diamond profile traces fine musical information within the groove while a tapered aluminium cantilever helps transmit stylus movement accurately. A dual-magnet design follows the left and right groove walls, supporting channel separation and a stable stereo soundstage. Audio-Technica's PCUHD copper coils and internal centre shield are designed to reduce crosstalk and improve signal performance.

Easy to install and upgrade

The AT-VM740xML fits a standard ½-inch headshell mount and uses threaded mounting holes, making it possible to secure the cartridge with screws without separate nuts. A V-cut in the stylus guard helps make the stylus position easier to see during setup. The replaceable AT-VMN40xML stylus makes ongoing ownership practical. Match it to a suitable moving-magnet phono stage and set the tracking force to 2.0g (within the specified 1.8–2.2g range).
