The Atlas Arran SC USB Grun cable is designed with a set of clear objectives to minimise reflective losses in high-speed USB cables. By incorporating improved termination methodology, higher purity conductors (OCC copper), solid core conductors, and advanced screening (Grun), the cable aims to achieve better consistency by length and improved fidelity for digital audio systems.

Atlas Arran SC USB Type A to Type B Grun Cable

The Atlas Arran SC USB Grun cable is designed with a set of clear objectives to minimise reflective losses in high-speed USB cables. By incorporating improved termination methodology, higher purity conductors (OCC copper), solid core conductors, and advanced screening (Grun), the cable aims to achieve better consistency by length and improved fidelity for digital audio systems.

Each Arran SC USB Grun will be supplied with a 1.0m Grun female to female cables and a small Grun male to spade adapter. This allows for a fast and simple connection of the cable screen to ground.

Features

  • OCC Data and Power Conductors: Utilizing OCC copper conductors for both data and power to improve system performance and consistency with length.
  • Controlled Characteristic Impedance: Implementing controlled characteristic impedance variations to reduce internal data reflections.
  • Twist Ratios Control: Ensuring control of twist ratios within the cable and accuracy of intra-pair lengths.
  • Transmission Improvement: Achieving improved transmission properties through a combination of OCC copper conductors and dielectric matching (low loss foamed polyethylene).
  • Extensive Screening: Incorporating extensive screening around individual differential data pairs and power/ground to minimize interference.
  • External Grun Connection: Including an external Grun connection to route all interference to ground.
  • Solid Core Conductors: Using solid core conductors for both signal and power.
  • Gold Plated Contacts: Featuring gold-plated contacts for reliable connections.
  • Type A/B Availability: Available in both type A and type B connectors for flexibility.

Problems Addressed

  • Maximum Bandwidth Maintenance: Ensuring that the cable maintains maximum available bandwidth through controlled factors such as attenuation, noise sources, skin effect, dielectric loss, intra-pair skew, shielding, and characteristic impedance.
  • Jitter Reduction: Jitter, caused by uncertainty in the digital domain due to various factors, is identified as the number one performance killer in digital music systems. The goal is to reduce jitter for improved performance.

Key Technical Considerations

  • Characteristic Impedance Control: Maintaining controlled characteristic impedance is crucial for minimizing error rates and preventing increased error detection and correction activity in the receiver (DAC, processor, streamer, etc.).
  • Noise Minimization: Different types of noise, including RFI, EMI, thermal, or conductive, need to be minimized to prevent increased error rates, ensuring consistent throughput and bandwidth.
  • Skin Effect and Dielectric Loss: Addressing higher frequency signals traveling closer to the surface of the cable, where effective resistance is higher (skin effect), and minimizing dielectric absorption to control and stabilize performance.
  • Shielding Strategy: Utilizing innovative shielding techniques to isolate the differential data, power/ground pairs, and connecting them directly to system ground (Grun connection) to reject noise effectively.
  • Intra Pair Skew Control: Minimizing the time difference in the propagation of a differential signal over the cable length by using matched pairs of cables with critically controlled lengths.
