For decades, QUAD has been synonymous with refinement and timeless engineering. Developed over four years under the direction of Peter Comeau (QUAD’s Director of Acoustic Design), the Elegan series represents a ground-up re-evaluation of what an accessible high-fidelity loudspeaker should be. While they serve as spiritual successors to the much-loved L Series of the early 2000s, these are entirely new designs engineered to perform well above their price point.
What Makes the Elegan Series Special?
If you've spent any time talking gear with us, you know I look for components that serve the music rather than just chasing specifications. The Elegan series does exactly that.
Built around newly developed, lattice-woven Kevlar drive units combined with a self-damping resin, these speakers offer an incredible balance of stiffness and controlled response. This drastically reduces unwanted resonance and clears up the midrange. Both models also feature dedicated crossover networks using Linkwitz-Riley acoustic topologies, housed in high-density MDF cabinets with QUAD's Airflow rear port system for tight, turbulence-free bass.
They are available in two minimalist finishes: a deep matte black (inspired by the flagship ESL X), or a classic real wood walnut veneer paired with a matte black front baffle.
The Elegan 1: Standmount Precision
The Elegan 1 is a two-way bookshelf speaker designed for near-to-mid-field listening. It pairs a 165mm woven Kevlar mid/bass driver with a 25mm fabric dome tweeter housed in a profiled waveguide.
Despite its compact 14.6-litre internal volume, it delivers surprisingly solid low-frequency performance down to 44 Hz (-6dB). It’s an incredibly balanced, natural-sounding speaker that handles vocals with realistic body and clarity.

The Elegan 2: Room-Filling Scale
For listeners who demand more presence, scale, and low-end authority, the Elegan 2 is a stunning step up.
Moving to a true three-way architecture, it features dual 165mm woven Kevlar bass drivers that dig down to 32 Hz. Crucially, the 125mm Kevlar midrange driver is housed in its own isolated 14-litre internal chamber. This keeps the critical vocal frequencies completely independent from the bass energy, resulting in phenomenal separation and tonal accuracy.
