About
The Funk Firm
The brain behind these developments was a physicist, Arthur Khoubesserian who in 2005 founded The Funk Firm. Its mission statement was clear and unequivocal: “To get the most from the tiny groove containing musical information”. You might have thought with so many ideas, it was all a done deal but reference to the master tape shows this is not the case and fresh new ideas are needed as much now as before.
Note we said “The Master Tape” and not “Digital”. With Pink as the backdrop then, isn’t this something for which Funk is uniquely capable?
In support of that, here already are some examples. 2005 Funk moved on from the acrylic and launched Achromat. A universal Mat of a new material and construction, which, incredibly improved on Pink Triangle’s original acrylic platter. It seems counter-intuitive but Achromat easily improves turntables costing £40,000+.
No wonder that Achromat is now the best selling mat in the world,
2006 A three-pulley belt drive system called Vector drive – it Vectors the drive force around the platter, thereby providing superior support to platter rotation, and is the ideal support for the conventional, downward pointing bearing, especially when correctly positioned – Yes, even here there is an optimisation process.
2010, Funk moved into cartridge supports, otherwise known as “The Arm”, where Funk has introduced a genuinely new arm tube construction. Arm resonances had plagued arms, quite literally for a century. Called F.X this new development has revolutionised the way resonances are now being reduced to vanishing. It is already regarded as a giant killer and development of this new technology is ongoing.

Anticipate much…

Launched 2012, Funk’s mid-priced Little Super Deck has surprised those who have heard it, finding that it really does dig more music from the grooves.

But how do you know it delivers? Go and compare…we’re happy putting it up against decks costing up to twice as much.

When you do try it, be ready to agree that Funk’s “Little Super Deck” is aptly named.

How do they do it?…

The platter rotates on top of a quality, hand burnished bearing. In turn this is driven by a superb motor and control.
Little Super Deck and Super Deck Grande are the entry points for Funk’s now famous three-pulley Vector drive system.
Germany’s Audio magazine gave Little Super Deck top honours for technical excellence and its sonic purity meant it went into their exclusive “Reference” section for turntables.

Having started with a solid foundation for the turntable itself, what of the arm?
Funk’s new F5 mk II may be budget priced, its performance, however, is anything but. It will happily handle cartridges costing as much as the deck and the music simply keeps flowing.

– Its clever variable mass tracking weight system helps optimise the arm for different cartridges
– a nifty headshell that makes and easy job of fitting and changing cartridges. More than that adjusting the important parameters of overhang and azimuth are all done using just a single screw.

Living with it…

“Little Super Deck’s” styling brief was to evoke not only a timeless quality but also one capable of gracing many different settings.

Already it has been described as “21st century retro”.

It appears we succeeded.

Are your surroundings minimalist? “Ice white” is the perfect complement.

Lush, traditional furniture? Enhance it with our solid American Walnut Trim.

The deep black “Jet” finish highlights its crisp lines.

Those who are more adventurous have not been left out either; special finish options (to order) are available in a variety of colours.

Turn the switch and an understated responsive soft glow appears from the control plate, adding a serene air of luxury.

At 7kg there is a fair bit of heft when it comes to picking it up.

At the same time, a 415 x 320 mm footprint means that it really is about as “Little” as they come. Good things and small packages come to mind.

Future Proofing…

Our ethos is to help your new acquisition grow with your aspiration and pocket; Little Super Deck is upgradable. Here’s how:

The first and easiest upgrade is to replace the felt mat by our now world famous 5mm Achromat…In offering that, one can see immediately that we are true to our core values and haven’t thrown the baby out with the bath water. For this new product, Achromat is available in a variety of colours to help you personalise your purchase. See your dealer. Of course these are also available as an upgrade for other turntables as well.

Problem with your electricity? No problem. A fully regulated and junk rejecting power supply replaces the wall plug to help remove background hash.

Finally you want the best arm possible? Starting with FX3, already rated as a giant killer, Funk’s technologically unique range is ever increasing and your upgrade path will take you as far as you want to go.

“Throughout my listening I felt involved in the music rather then just listening to it, which is surely the whole point..”
…a belt drive turntable of unusual stability that will have a rock steady tone and an arm that is well damped and vibrationally inert”
